NEW SFSA Conservation and Access Team newsletter

Feb 05,2007 Simon Bennett

Here's the latest Newsletter from the SFSA Conservation and Access Team.

The upcoming election to the Scottish Executive will offer us an ideal opportunity to get some real focus on sea angling in Scotland, it's Mikes leader and a key topic on page 1. In the next few weeks there are going to be opportunities for ALL to get involved, so keep an eye out for future 'Election Special' Updates.

Catch-Photo-Release features John Crowther and a 200+lb Common Skate.

Page 3 features an update from the guys on Arran who have been struggling with the entrenched views of the Scottish Executive and their prejudice in favour of commercial interests. It's taken them over 10 years but it looks like they may be heading towards success in their attempt to have Lamlash Bay made a Marine Protected Area from which mobile fishing gear is prohibited in order to regenerate and enhance local fish and shellfish populations.

As usual, Lenny has a couple of useful tips and there are also special contributions by Denis Kelly - who asks you to think a little on your holidays, and Glen Kilpatrick - who would like you to focus on personal safety at all times.

We always need more people to get involved in ensuring our interests are considered in all regions so please step forward and volunteer a little of your time and effort, no special skills are needed, only an interest in trying to ensure Fish for the Future is a reality and not just a motto. Just email contact@sfsacu.com and we'll get back to you.

I would be grateful if you were to ensure the Newsletter gets as broad an exposure as possible by printing a few copies out and handing them around to tackle shops, charter skippers, publicans or whatever and asking them to display it in a prominent position.

SFSA Regional and Club Secretaries - Please ensure all members & associates have their email address registered with us, again contact@sfsacu.com - and encourage them to give their support to initiatives when we ask for it.
